def GetToKnow():

My name is Trung, you can call me Steven as well. I am a person with a heart for tech and I work on projects in my free time. You can see some of my best below.

I study Electrical Engineering at the Technical University Dortmund and I have been living in Germany for two years. I go cycling/wandering every once in a while, and nature is my second love.

Person.Projects

The Internet Rover

This is a RC Car that can be controlled from anywhere in the world, as long as you have internet connection. Comes with GPS navigation, live camera feed, and on-board sensors. I have dreamed of owning something like this since I was a kid, finally I made it come true (took 8 years only huh?).

My Website

You're looking at it! There's more to this website though - have fun browsing uselessrandom.org and read about me and my funny ideas. Don't mind the php - I wouldn't call myself a pro web developer (yet).

The Biosphere

The Biosphere is a smart terrarium controlled using MQTT over the internet with an Android application. It monitors temperature, humidity, CO2 level, and the lights and fogger can also be controlled from the app. I am currently working on it, and here is a preview.

The Tesla Coil

The Tesla Coil is a high voltage device invented by Nikola Tesla. This modern implementation works on the same principles, but uses MOSFETs for switching. It can light up bulbs wirelessly and even play music from its arcs.

Person.WorkExperience

I have worked part-time for a while in Germany. Let me tell you about my time here.

Web development

Professional web development is a little something new for me. How I came to work for the company is a little funny story (that I'll tell you if I get an interview!).

I started by programming a script for their gitlab repo that scans code for references to open source third party repos, then automatically make mirrors to the local repo. I then spent some time on one of their web application project, learning about a new framework called reflex that enables full python web development.

In December 2023, I made a pause though, because I need to spend more time on university stuffs and find an internship.

Hardware & automated testing

I started working as a student at Kostal Automobile Electric in second year.

My department was working on the developmen of a charge controller for electric cars at the time. My task was to design Hardware-Software Integration Tests based on their requirements and prototype designs. I then go on to implement my tests on a test machine, execute it, and evaluate the results.

I learned a lot about automated testing, the process of hardware development, and most importantly teamworks in a professional environment.

Teaching

Barely two months after arriving in Germany, I landed a teaching job at Lernstudio Bochum.
Not much to say really, I had fun teaching the kids for a while, and they also taught me German culture. The kids loved me because I always try to make them have fun while learning.

Person.Skills

Skill = "Matlab&Simulink"

Level = "Good"

I chose to visit a Matlab course at college which also included building some projects, so I have plenty of hands-on experience.

Skill = "Raspberry Pi"

Level = "Good"

The Internet Rover runs with a Pi, needless to say I've spent plenty of time tinkering with it. But I definitely need some more system administration know-how.

Skill = "C++"

Level = "Highly proficient"

C++ was one of the first thing I learned at university, and it is my favourite language (no offense to others).

Skill = "Python"

Level = "Highly proficient"

My first and favourite language, which also runs the Internet Rover, I've been coding in Python for quite a while and I'm confident I mastered it to a high level.

Skill = "Android"

Level = "Basic"

I recently started Android programming for the Biosphere project. I've completed one course and feel like I know all, but that's just Mt. Stupidity on the Dunning Kruger.

Skill = "ESP32 on Arduino"

Level = "Good"

Everybody knows Arduino nowadays, I'm not gonna brag. I plan to massively level up in this department, and maybe move on to something more professional like STM32.

Skill = "Hardware"

Level = "Highly proficient"

I have been playing with circuit boards and components since highschool, and it is my major in college, so no question asked. I do think I need to start looking into CAD and PCB design though.

Skill = "Web programming"

Level = "Good"

I am fairly experienced in HTML/JS/CSS and Bootstrap, which I used to build this site, but I'm not at all proud of PHP (what a dinosaur tech). I'd love to move on to MERN in the future.
